Intravenous conscious sedation is when we use a drug similar to Valium to calm your nerves. Sedation allows even the most nervous person to accept treatment or we can use it for longer treatments so that you remain comfortable.

Conscious sedation will make you feel sleepy and relaxed, in a 'dream state' or having an 'out-of-body' experience. Time will pass very quickly for you, and, because of our comfortable dental beds, dark eyewear and a warm blanket most people do actually fall asleep. We will still use local anaesthetic to make your mouth numb. It is unlikely you will remember much of the procedure. You will feel drowsy for about 8 hours but will be able to walk out of Crossbank. You may sleep heavily following sedation and still feel drowsy the following day.

Following sedation you will be required to stay at the practice for a short time until our dental team is satisfied that you are safe to be accompanied home by a responsible adult.
