Getting to know our dental team - An interview with Bookkeeper Shannon

How long have you worked at Crossbank Dental Care?

Just over 3 Years :)

How has your career developed during your time at Crossbank Dental Care and what initially drew you to this profession?

I started working at Crossbank as maternity cover for part of the Front of House Team.  As I have always loved mathematics, in my spare time I started an accountancy course.

When I mentioned the course in passing to Bex, I was delighted that she offered me a job working with the practice accounts, permanently. I thoroughly enjoy my role and what I have learnt about finances of a business has been fascinating! Since working at the practice I have gained a Foundation certificate in accounting, an advanced Diploma in accounting, professional membership with the Association of Accounting Technicians and I am hoping to gain a Diploma in Professional Accounting.

Can you describe your typical day-to-day responsibilities in your role as a bookkeeper?

Every day has different tasks including such things as price comparisons, invoicing, ordering, bank reconciliation, KPI analysis, budgeting, monitoring diary utilisation, payroll, assisting with data analysis on operating costs, productivity, pricing structure, membership plans, 7 surgery utilisation. I also sometimes have correspondence with patients if they have any financial queries.

What are you planning to do in your professional future?

I would love to gain a professional Diploma in Accounting and get a licence to work as an accounting technician. I have also been researching becoming a CIPP (chartered institute of payroll professionals) accountant and/or a ATT technician (Association of taxation technicians). Whatever happens, I would love to work in accounts because I love it!

If you had to swap jobs for one day in the practice, which job would you swap and why?

I would love to see what the implant nurses do, it would be fascinating to watch a live surgery!
